Ashgrove Engineering Portglenone Co.Antrim

The staff at Ashgrove were brilliant at machining new bushes, boring out ovalled holes and other precision engineering work.

The produce a wide range of precision engineering services for the food, tyre and electronic industries.

Our 45 year old hardened steel put their drill bits and patience to the test however Ashgrove persisted with some of the challenges which had a very positive outcome.

Strickly speaking it is possible to replace the worn bushes however if the steel hole which was once circular has become oval with wear, then the replacement pins will wear the new bushes more rapidly. If the tractor is purely for show

Charles Hurst Tyres Coleraine

Charles Hurst Tyres in Coleraine County Londonderry were very useful when it came to sourcing the correct cross ply tyres from Goodyear. We decided to use Cross Ply Diamond pattern sidewalls rather than the more modern radial tyres. Charles Hurst took great care when fitting the tyres to minimize the damage to our newly painted rims.
Goodyear supported the project with technical and material support.

Dunlop Tractor Spares

Dunlop Tractor Spares based outside Ballymena Co.Antrim has a fantastic reputation for high quality replacement parts for a wide range of classic & vintage tractors. We approached Bertie Dunlop for an interview as he has vast experience of tractor restoration and he is always willing to help. Bertie sold the business he developed over many years but he is still retained as a resident expert.

The attention to detail Dunlop Tractor Spares apply to having replica pieces made is amazing. When we were there Bertie showed us how when they commissioned a replica the original was sent off so it could be copied exactly. Sometimes the copies were rejected and this results in high quality replicas rather than copies.

Dunlop Tractor Spares caters for nearly every type of classic & vintage tractor. Their warehouse is crammed with bonnets, grill, wheels, seats and fixtures and fittings of every imaginable size and kind. Their friendly expert help in sourcing replacement parts is legendary.

FARMCARE Services have been supplying farmers for over 20 years with quality tractor & machinery spare parts.
We are a small business with a large turnover and very modern ideas.
With the experience of over 35 years in the trade owner Desmond Boyle has a hands on approach and with his staff keeps customer needs in mind.

FARMCARE Services carries a large stock including the build up of vintage tractor parts and this is an area that Farmcare are getting more involved in. But the mainstream of service to customers remains in the modern high specification lines where a fully-computerised stock control allows a high proportion of spare requests.

John McElderry's - Ballymoney

Massey Ferguson’s 10+ parts programme supplied a considerable amount of the parts for the Reborn Tractor project. Mark the parts manager seems to have a computer style memory and was exceptionally helpful in sourcing parts. He was also very quick to find options and items that were suitable replacements.

McElderry’s is a Massey Ferguson main dealer and were both generous with their time and friendly advice during the rebuilding of the project.

They have an online shop for most of the Massey Ferguson 10+ parts

Maine Surface Finishing

Maine Surface Finishing were responsible for the power blasting, metal repair & fabrication and the final paint job.

Eugene Dixon took great care to ensure the correct blast agent was used to remove the paint. Soda blasting was employed for most of the project as it removes the pain without damaging the surface below. It can even remove the paint off a soft drinks can. Aluminum oxide was employed for the more heavily rusted wings.

The level of care and attention to detail at Maine Surface Finishing was exceptional. The staff were all very helpful with genuine advice on how to get the best end result.

The wings were rebuilt by James Louden who patiently cut and replaced the rotten toolboxes with new MF10+ replacement units. He spent a great deal of effort to ensure everything lined up properly.

Danny Hanley panel beat the bodywork and managed to rescue the bonnet which required several days of pain staking easing and reforming. Danny also painted the MF135 to a high standard and was involved in the infamous discussion over traditional ‘Synthetic’ paint or contemporary ‘Two Pack’ paint. Interestingly many show tractors are painted with traditional ‘Synthetic’ paint with lacquer added to the final coat to create a high gloss.

All the staff were tremendous in their patience with the filming process which may have impacted on their daily schedules.

Reborn Tractor can thoroughly recommend Maine Surface Finishing to anyone looking a top class power blast, prime and paint service.
